Bayshore Law Group Latest Example of Growing Trend Favoring Boutique Firms
—Tampa-based firm opens, responding to economy with services
tailored to clients’ business priorities—
TAMPA, Fla. (February 9, 2010) – Former Squire, Sanders and & Dempsey lawyers Suzette Marteny and Harry Teichman have formed Bayshore Law Group, P.L.L.C., located in the Sykes Building in downtown Tampa. Reflecting the growing popularity of smaller law firms in the current economy, Marteny and Teichman formed the boutique business law firm to focus on intellectual property, business transactions and tax law.
“Bayshore Law Group offers a high-efficiency, high-energy approach that matches clients’ needs for business-focused, responsive and cost-effective legal assistance in the current economic climate,” said Mr. Teichman.
Last year, the National Law Journal reported the biggest drop ever in employment at the 250 largest law firms in the nation. According to its survey (for details, see http://www.law.com), the number of attorneys declined from 131,928 in 2008 to 126,669 in 2009. This trend, coupled with an uncharacteristic lack of jobs for new law school graduates, is changing the face of the legal industry. In response, more corporate clients are choosing smaller firms to focus on key business and legal issues vs. the “blank check” relationships that had evolved in some relationships with bigger firms.
“Around the country, there is strong growth by smaller firms that can offer the services of highly trained, experienced lawyers, tailored for a client’s specific business needs,” said Ms. Marteny. “This is our model at Bayshore Law Group.”
Ms. Marteny specializes in assisting clients in acquiring, monetizing and enforcing their intellectual property rights. She has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of claims, and covers such areas at manufacturing, Internet technology, new media (such as podcasting and blogging), online gaming and entertainment. She has been named as one of Florida Trend magazine’s “Legal Elite,” along with being named to the “Super Lawyers” list and the Gulf Coast Business Review’s “40 Under 40” list of businesspeople to watch.
Mr. Teichman focuses his work on corporate and shareholder structures, licensing and franchise agreements, and federal income tax issues. A noted tax expert, Mr. Teichman publishes and lectures widely, and has chaired several tax-related committees for the American Bar Association and Florida Bar Association.
