Lee County Bar Association offers CLE for attorneys on the Florida Unemployment Insurance Program

The Lee County Bar Association is sponsoring a free Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program on March 19, 2010 designed to teach attorneys how to properly represent clients who have become unemployed for any reason. “You’re FIRED! How to Keep Employees From Being Trumped in Unemployment” will be presented by Tess Arington, Director of Intake at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Inc. Registration and continental breakfast start at 8:30 a.m. with program from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The seminar will teach attorneys how to handle unemployment cases of all kinds, referred through Florida Rural Legal Services. Topics include an overview of the unemployment compensation system of benefits, wrongful and other forms of termination, what disqualifies applicants, the filing of claims, the handling of initial appeals, proper preparation for the hearing, various hearing filings, the hearing format, and the decision, followed by the handling of appeals to the Commission and to District Court. Attendees will earn 3.0 general credit hours.
